Vana Roth

SHARING THOUGHTS ON LIFE AND WRITING

The Author

Vana Roth was born in Detroit in 1960, and is the second of four children. Her first eight years were spent in Madison Heights, Michigan. After her parents divorced in 1969, Vana moved to Royal Oak where she lived with her mother, older sister and two younger brothers. At fifteen, she began her career working as a technical illustrator for local companies who produced assembly and maintenance manuals for automotive manufacturers.

She graduated from Royal Oak, Dondero High School in 1978, and on her eighteenth birthday in April of the same year, moved out of her mother's home. Vana spent the next twenty-three years working in various engineering and management positions for major suppliers to the automotive industry. Between 1981 and 1988, she experienced two failed marriages to which she attributes to her own stupidity. In 1989 she met the man of her dreams. Her family affectionately refers to him as "the shed man" since their courtship began after he came over to help build a storage shed. In August of 1990, they married and have been together since.

Both being animal lovers, Vana and her husband are a constant source of entertainment for their pets who they refer to as their children, a precocious cat they rescued as a kitten from being used as coyote bait and mischievous six year old who has no idea she's a dog.

In early 2001, Vana was diagnosed with a number of health issues. Forced into early retirement due to permanent disability, the family moved from the Detroit suburbs to rural Farwell, Michigan. After over forty-five years of living in areas of constant movement, noise, and light, they now enjoy a quieter, more secluded existence where there's more activity from the local wildlife than vehicles.

Vana has many interests. She's an avid reader, loves animals, nature, computers, art, and anything mechanical. At forty-seven, Vana's decided her new goal in life will be writing entertaining thought provoking fiction focused on a variety of serious issues.
